After the upheaval caused by the man-made Gate (which tale my storyteller Masha Holl has related in The Brightest Heaven), I am only too happy to rest and enjoy a quiet time on human Earth.
Even with all the changes in his life, Daniel remains the bright spirit I saw first on the rocky beach of Maine. He still fills my soul with his creative fire. And having to live as human isn't quite the harship many Olympians would have you believe. Especially in these cozy, comfortable times.
I must admit, I have been seduced by electronics. Games, computers, graphic applications... And Zoe, Daniel's daughter, with her thirst for knowledge and her neverending creativity, is no less a delight, especially when she sits down to work at her computer and lets it absorb her to the exclusion of anything else.
I could say that I am happy. But I have a cautious nature. I have been too well taught by relatives and acquaintainces on Olympus to rest easy long. It has been years since anything serious has called either Daniel or me to our duties. Something is bound to break our fragile peace. And my destiny is tied so closely with his, and with his daughter's, that I still cannot see anything of our futures.
Now Zoe is preparing to leave for college. A new life is opening up for her. Olympus has vowed to watch over her for the length of her mortal life, but even Zeus cannot gainsay the Fates, and not even he knows what they are weaving into Zoe's life thread.
I sense... something. Imminent. Momentous. I may have to call on my scribe again to write down these impending events.
